The MPD facilities in Owensboro, Kentucky, have more than 437,000 square feet of lab, factory, office and storage space. MPD Components, Inc. is a subsidiary of MPD, Inc. MPD, Inc. is an employee owned (ESOP) company. MPD's Other subsidiaries are CMI, Inc., Lion Laboratories Limited, MPD (Singapore) PTE LTD, and MPH Industries, Inc. which design and manufacture breath alcohol measurement equipment and police & speed radar equipment. MPD, Inc.�s roots go back to 1899 and Kentucky Electric. In 1922, Kentucky Radio (or Ken-Rad) was spun off to manufacture an entirely new product, electron tubes. At the end of World War II, General Electric (GE) purchased Ken-Rad and operated it until January 1987. During this time, this facility was part of GE�s Microwave Products Department (MPD). In the 1960s, GE's MPD employment reached over 6,000 people. In 1987, GE sold the business to a group of private investors and MPD, Inc. was formed. MPD Components, Inc. is the portion of MPD, Inc. that was MPD's business in 1987. In 1997, Gary Braswell, President & CEO, and his staff, arranged for MPD, Inc. to become an ESOP.
